Google Goggles - Virtual Search Application

Goggles Logo

Until now the only option for web search was typing or speaking but now you can search by taking a picture.
For all those who do not know yet, Google Goggles is a virtual search application for Android and iOS.
So when and where are we going to use this application ?
Well there must be times when seeing a landmark you should have  wondered if you know what this landmark is or knowing details about an artwork by just seeing it is not at all easy until and unless you are an art-lover.Searching them by typing random words is not just a good option.

Now with Google Goggles all you need to do is just open the app, fill as much of the screen as possible with the object and take a picture.

Landmark
Here is what you get.You just captured the landmark in Google Goggles and it do the rest for you.It even shows all the related information links about the landmark.

Artwork
Here Google Goggles figured out not just the title of this artistic piece but also its history and all other related links too.

Wine Bottles
Oh see what we got here. Google goggles identifies the wine bottles too.

Books
Here you got exact book match without typing or saying a word.

Logos

Google Goggles identifies almost all logos and tells its brand or company name. Well it can also help you for cheating in a logo quiz.

Business Card

Another good use of this app is on a business card. You can easily save the contact number or copy the whole information.

Translating Text
When traveling places where you do not know the language,Google Goggles can translate text for you.

Bar-code Scanner
Surprisingly Google Goggles works amazing as a bar-code scanner too.As you can see in the picture above.

Though Google Goggles is a really cool and helpful app but virtual search technology is still in its early stage.
As for now it only searches things like landmarks,logos,books,contact, bar-codes.

But for now it can not search food, plants, animals, cars.

If this technology advances it will be able to do more cool things like filling answers of Sudoku, solving puzzles, suggesting move in chess game or taking picture of leaf and identify the plant.

Google Street View Is Now Available on the Google Maps Webapp

Thursday, October 4, 2012 // by Saurabh // Labels: , , // No comments:

Google has added the Street View feature to its Google Maps webapp, giving the already robust mapping system a nice on the ground viewpoint for wherever you're going.
To access Street View, type in the address you're looking for into Google Maps on your mobile browser, and click the person icon in the bottom right corner. You'll drop down into the traditional Street View and you can swipe to look around. If you've been missing the Street View feature on iOS 6, this is nice to have around to get a better idea of where you're going, and it makes the Google Maps webapp that much more useful.

A New Update to Google "The Google Bar"

Thursday, December 1, 2011 // by Saurabh // Labels: , , , , , // No comments:

NEWS Six months ago Google started rolling out a new look and feel for Search, News, Maps, Translate, Gmail and a bunch of other products. Their goal was to create a beautifully simple and intuitive user experience across Google.

now they're ready for the next stage of our redesign — a new Google bar that will enable the users to navigate quickly between google services, as well as share the right stuff with the right people easily on Google+.

Instead of the horizontal black bar at the top of the page, you’ll now find links to your services in a new drop-down Google menu nested under the Google logo. We’ll show you a list of links and you can access additional services by hovering over the “More” link at the bottom of the list. Click on what you want, and you’re off.

To find out more about the new Google bar, take a look at this video

The Changes are visible on all Google services:

MapsGL Brings a Much Smoother, More Detailed 3D Experience to Google Maps

Monday, October 17, 2011 // by Saurabh // Labels: , , , // No comments:

The Google Maps team has released a new experimental version of Maps, complete with 3D buildings, smooth transitions between views, and more.
The new version of Maps, called MapsGL, uses WebGL technology in the latest browsers (all modern versions of Google Chrome as well as Firefox 8 and above) to create a smoother Maps experience. The sweeping transitions between map view and street view are pretty cool, as are the smoother motions when you drag around the map. The coolest part, though, is the addition of 3D buildings to many towns and cities. Not only do they look awesome, but it's helpful to know where actual buildings are on a street without having to enter street view.

MapsGL runs in Firefox 8 and above, as well as Google Chrome. Your system does need to meet some minimum specs to work (MapsGL will tell you whether it meets them or not), so if you're on a netbook or low-powered laptop like a MacBook Air it may not work for right now. Head to the link below and hit the "Want to Try Something New?" button to get started, or check out the video above for a demonstration.
